Aulos Tenor Recorder

Aulos recorders are widely regarded as one of the highest quality plastic options available.  The Aulos tenor recorder shares many of the characteristics of more expensive, wooden instruments at a fraction of the cost.  The Aulos recorder has a gently curved, carefully shaped windway, creating a tone which, although a bit glassy, has a pleasant chiff to the sound.  The tone holes are thoughtfully placed, and fall easily under most hands- especially the thumb hole.

Like all plastic recorders, especially larger instruments, clogging can be an issue; but generally speaking, the Aulos tenor seems to clog less than many other comparable tenors.  That said, it’s important to treat the windway regularly with declogging solution, and fully warm it up under your arm before playing.

The Aulos tenors are available in both a keyed and unkeyed version.  As with other tenors, the deciding factor in which model you get should be the size of your hands, although for most people I find that the keyed version is more suitable- especially for those who are just beginning to work with the tenor recorder.

For beginning or intermediate players looking for a high-quality plastic tenor to learn on, or for more experienced players looking for a plastic instrument, the Aulos tenor recorder is an excellent option!
